Our Background
According to professor Senerath Paranawithana as stated in "Alakeshwara Parampara Pusthaka
Lipiya", around
13, 14 and 15th century in sri lanka, Rajamaha Viharaya was known as Pathiraja Piriven.
Due to this information we consider Horana Rahamaha Viharaya to be the birthplace of few of the greatest
creations in
sinhala literature Called Sidath Sangarawa and Mayura Sandeshaya
The remains of this sacred land was examined by Dalupitiye aththadassi thero. Vidagama Sobitha thero who
was a powerful figure in the community at that time, informed to restore this estate. Going on that in
1824 A.D. the governor at that time Sir Edward Banst has presented a petition. Then in 1840 A.D. The
government has acquired this land and has rebuilt the temple. In 1870 A.D. "Nethra Prathisthapana" Was
held.
